Younger fans may not recognize or know the significance of the pale blue and orange Gulf Oil livery, but to the older fans, it means a lot. Gulf Oil liveried race cars were amongst the most recognized ones around. CEO of MDC Partners, Miles Nadal might just be one of the biggest fans of the Gulf livery as he commissioned McLaren Special Operations (MSO) to do this one-off Gulf-liveried P1.
Staying true to the Gulf theme, MSO took inspirations from the past McLaren F1 GTR race car which had similar liveries. MSO finished the outside of the P1 with the recognizable pale blue finish, with the orange accents found on the front splitter, rear diffuser and even on the side skirts. MSO has even painted the brake calipers in the same shade of orange.
The pale blue and orange theme continues inside, with the colours being featured in the centre of the steering wheel. The DRS and IPAS buttons too, gets the same pale blue and orange colour treatment. The seats may not feature the blue colour, but it does get contrasting orange to add to the finishing touch.
The powertrain of this Gulf Oil livery McLaren P1 remains the same, with the twin-turbo 3.8-litre V8 mated to an electric motor producing a mental 903 bhp and a total of 978 Nm of torque. 0-100 km/h is done in just 2.8 seconds, and top speed is electronically limited to 349 km/h.
