Japanese kei cars are something we don’t get much here in Malaysia, but over in Japan, these little kei cars does have quite a following. Just recently, Honda has unveiled their latest addition to the N Series of kei cars, the N-BOX SLASH. The N-BOX SLASH features a boxy, yet at the same time, coupe-like body.
Due to Japanese kei car regulations, the N-BOX SLASH has a regulated engine capacity of just 660cc. Honda offers both a naturally-aspirated engine and a turbocharged engine for the N-BOX SLASH. The only transmission choice available is a CVT, but buyers do get the choice of having paddle shifters. Interestingly enough, the N-BOX SLASH is also offered in both front wheel drive and four-wheel drive variants.
With kei cars being a trend in Japan, it comes as no surprise that the N-BOX SLASH comes with a number of customization options. For starters. buyers are able to choose from a total of 28 different body colours! This is split between 10 single body colours and 18 dual tone body colours. Buyers can further customize their N-BOX SLASH with 5 different interior colours as well.
Despite being a small kei car, Honda has also included an extensive list of safety features for the N-BOX SLASH. Emergency Stop Signal which responds to sudden braking and quickly blinks hazard lamps automatically to alert vehicles following behind is standard across all variants, as well as Vehicle Stability Assist (VSA). Dual front airbags, Hill Start Assist, ABS and EBD comes standard on all variants as well.
Honda plans to sell 2,500 units of the new N-BOX SLASH monthly, and prices starts from 1,380,000 yen ( est RM40,000 before taxes) for the base spec G model.
