Kuala Lumpur welcomes zero-emission electric vehicles

KL Electric Mobility Sdn Bhd, a fully owned subsidiary of Masers Energy Inc. has announced that they will be investing RM1.5 billion to introduce 3,000 electric vehicle charging stations through a project called KL Electric A-gogo car sharing. The electric car sharing service will be backed by 3,000 charging stations throughout the Kuala Lumpur golden triangle. The initial phase of rolling out the charging stations will start in January 2015. A total of 10,000 electric cars are expected to be introduced over the next few years as well.

Together with Dewan Bandaraya Kuala Lumpur, KL Electric Mobility sealed the agreement to introduce zero-emission cars in Kuala Lumpur to cut down on our carbon footprint, and reducing the usage of petrol.

Dato’ Seri Hj Suhaimi Hj Abdul Rahman, Chairman and Chief Executive Officer of KL Electric Mobility Sdn Bhd said, “The zero-emission vehicles include battery-electric vehicles, plug-in hybrid-electric vehicles, and hydrogen fuel-cell-electric vehicles. These technologies can be used in passenger cars, trucks and transit buses. This agreement marks an important and profound commitment towards Malaysia’s transition to a zero-carbon nation by 2030. Masers Energy is currently working with the transportation sector to convert to the ‘fifth fuel’ and usage of electric vehicles as part of our strategy on providing cheaper, cleaner and reliable energy for the nation.”

“The beauty of KL Electric A-gogo is that it is environment friendly as the car which will be used are fully powered by electricity. Apart from that, we also get to save a lot of time. This is due to the fact that the users require no extra time to look for parking and they can use the bus and taxi lane around Kuala Lumpur,” he continued.

The Italian-made French-branded Bolloré Bluecar has a 250 km city range and a 150 km highway range. The Bluecar features a 30 kW (40 hp) electric motor and power comes from a 30 kWh lithium-polymer battery pack that is coupled with a supercapacitor. Top speed is rated at 130 km/h. Safety wise, there is a single airbag for the driver, and an external buzzer to alert pedestrians as the car approaches silently.

The electric car sharing service is expected to create some 24 million new jobs over the next 10 years. The whole KL Electric A-gogo is backed by government sovereign guarantee of  US$30 billion (RM99 billion).
