The Suzuki Swift Sport is arguably the best value-for-money hot hatch money can buy, where else for RM100,000 can get you a fun driving car that delivers more smiles than anything within that aforementioned price range. However, with just 136 bhp, the word “fast” doesn’t gel with the Swift Sport. That is set to change as Suzuki plans for a faster, harder, turbocharged Swift Sport.
The turbocharged Swift Sport is part of the company’s six new cars planned for the next three years. Sales of the current generation Swift supermini in Europe has been challenged by more established superminis, including the new Honda Jazz. Understandably the current Swift has a small boot and poor legroom, the next generation Swift is set to fix such shortcomings. Most importantly, Suzuki will develop the new hardcore Swift Sport with lighter weight and more power (hence, turbocharged) than the current one.
Apart from the Swift and the hotter Swift Sport, Suzuki is also planning a replacement for the Vitara and Jimny. Meanwhile, the Celerio city car will make its debut in early 2015 to replace the underwhelming Alto as the company’s entry-level model. Suzuki also wants a slice of the competitive C-segment hatchback market, hence a hatchback with the size of a Volkswagen Golf is planned for 2016.
With the six new models, Suzuki set to have a robust year in 2017. Just don’t dream of the Cappuccino roadster to reappear as Suzuki has no plan for that, yet.
