Volkswagen has pretty much secured the hot hatch title this year with the Golf R, and now they want a slice of the hot wagon market. With that, enter the 296 bhp Golf R Wagon, fresh from Wolfsburg.
Under the bonnet lies the familiar 2.0-litre turbocharged engine and standard six-speed dual shift gearbox (DSG) that is used in the Golf R mk7. The Golf R Wagon can run from 0-100 km/h in just 5.1 secs with a fuel consumption rating of 14.3 km/l. Electronic goodies such as the 4Motion all-wheel drive, ESC Sport stability control system and Driving Profile Selector are carried over from the Golf R hatchback to the wagon.
Boot space is where the Golf R Wagon excels. The wagon has 262 litres more than the hatchback version, and with the rear seats folded down, boot space can be expanded to 1620-litre. The car will potentially be a hit among Europeans when the car is scheduled for sale in spring 2015.
