It’s here! Amidst the blazing hot weather today, MINI Malaysia has unveiled the second variant of the third generation MINI, called the new MINI Cooper S 5-Door. The event was held at the KLCC Multi Level Car Park, giving the ideal set up for the MINI, since the MINI is set to redefine urban driving fun.
Mr. Alan Harris, Managing Director of BMW Group Malaysia introduced the new MINI model, saying, “With the introduction of the New MINI 5-Door, we at MINI Malaysia are now more than ever excited to continue providing our loyal customers a wider range of the most exciting premium small car brand in the world. We believe that the New MINI 5-Door will further demonstrate superior qualities of the brand’s hallmark driving excitement particularly with its evolutionary exterior design advancements and characteristic brand styling.”
Looks wise, the new MINI Cooper S 5-Door still looks unmistakably MINI, with the famous MINI body shape and headlight design. Being a new model, LED daytime running lights come as standard as well. Besides that, even the headlights are of the LED type. The 17″ Roulette Spoke two-tone rims are fitted with 205/45/R17 Pirelli Cinturato P7 tires, which happen to be run-flat tyres as well.
Powering the MINI Cooper S 5-Door is a new 2.0L MINI TwinPower Turbo engine, good for 192 hp and 280 Nm of torque. The engine is mated to a 6-speed sports automatic transmission that moves the front wheels. This combination allows the Mini Cooper S 5-Door to sprint from a standstill to a hundred in just 6.8 seconds, with a top speed of 230 km/h. In an effort to save fuel, the Cooper S 5-Door also features automatic engine start/stop.
Performance numbers aside, the MINI Cooper S 5-Door also boasts a very premium interior, with Leather Cross Punch Carbon Black Upholstery featured on the interior. Also new to the interior is the 6.5″ MINI Visual Boost LCD display with 5-key controller. This replaces the old centre-positioned speedometer of the past. The LCD display allows smartphone connectivity via the MINI Connected integration. Both front passenger and driver also gets sports seats. Safety wise, the MINI Cooper S 5-Door has 6 airbags, which includes the two front airbags, side airbags and curtain airbags.
In addition to the 10 existing exterior body colours, the MINI Cooper S 5-Door also adds an exclusive Electric Blue, bringing the total number of colours to 11. Buyers of the MINI can also choose between white and black colour for the roof, side mirrors and bonnet stripes. Price for the new MINI Cooper S 5-Door on the road without insurance will be RM238,888 and is backed with a 3-year or 50,000 km MINI after-sales care. The car will be available from authorized MINI dealerships nationwide from the 15th of November onwards.
