We do learn that based on Chinese funeral customs, they will burn paper cars in forms of a Mercedes with a chauffeur for their departed loved ones so they can enjoy being driven in a Mercedes on the afterlife. In history lessons we learnt that the ancient Pharaohs were buried together with their treasures, concubines and servants so the Pharoah will enjoy all he had in in life and the afterlife as well. It is perhaps such history and folklore that inspired a Brazillian businessman and billionaire to do something for his beloved Bentley. Chiquinho Scarpa, 62, is so in love with his Bentley Continental Flying Spur, that he just announced he will be burying his prized Bentley so he can enjoy it in the afterlife. Not surprisingly, he has received condemnation from many for not donating the car to charity.
The strange part is the Count is not dead yet and he has initiated the burial ceremony of the Bentley in his home garden with pictures shown on social media. Then Scarpa announced in a press conference that the whole act was a diversion to gain attention to promote Brazilians on organ donation during Brazil’s national week of organ donation. He did not bury his Bentley after all and has signed on as an organ donor.
Taken from his Facebook page “I have not buried my car, but everyone thought it absurd when I said I’d do it. It is absurd to bury their bodies, which can save many lives. Nothing is more valuable. Be a donor, tell your family”.
Whether he really was going to bury his Bentley but succumbed to peer pressure, or whether it was all just a publicity stunt for real, we’ll never know, but whatever it is, we tip our hat to Scarpa for his bold and courageous act., as well as a very unique way to promote the message of being an organ donor.
