The new Ford Fiesta is a chic magnet and now it’s really official as the new Fiesta 1.0 EcoBoost has recently won the overall 2013 Women’s World Car of the Year and Women’s World Car of the Year Economy Car titles. Jurors placed it ahead of shortlisted finalists that included the posh Range Rover and the sexy Porsche Boxster S.

The Ford Fiesta was assessed by the panel of 18 female motoring writers from around the globe which judged the awards on factors including safety, value-for-money, aesthetic appearance, storage space, child-friendliness, ease-of-driving, colour, sex appeal and environmental footprint. After careful deliberation, the chic and stylish new Fiesta won the judges’ heart for its bold exterior, an interior optimised for ergonomics and comfort, not to mention its cutting edge technology which include Ford MyKey that allows parents to encourage safer driving and limit their teenager’s exposure to risk at the wheel.

According to Victoria MacMillan Bell Women’s World Car of the Year judge, “The Fiesta has a real high-end look and feel to it. Pair this with the multi-award-winning 1.0 litre EcoBoost engine which reaches range and performance levels never seen before, and this stylish pocket rocket wins in every category.”

For 2013, the award’s categories were changed, and the three-tier voting system helps to ensure cars are thoroughly vetted before they become category finalists or winners. Judges supply their own list of 2013 models they’ve tested, which are whittled down to a shortlist of finalists for each category. From there, judges pick their winner and two runners up in each category, which are tallied up for the official results.

The smallest engine in its class, Ford’s patented three-cylinder EcoBoost engine is big on power, torque and refinement. It is capable of producing 123hp of power and peak torque of 170Nm and it is tiny enough to fit on a sheet of A4 paper or stow away in an airplane overhead luggage compartment!

The 1.0L EcoBoost delivers more power for its size than a Lamborghini Aventador. Proving small does not mean slow, the 1.0L engine set 16 land-speed records at a racetrack in France last year, with the unmodified Ford Focus 1.0L EcoBoost achieving 0-100 km/h acceleration in 11.3 seconds and a top speed of 193 km/h.

We will be getting a first-hand look at the Ford Fiesta 1.0-litre EcoBoost in Chiang Mai, Thailand very soon, so stay close for more updates! – AF.
