Toyota has announced another global recall, where this time a total of 1.75 million vehicles are affected over brake issues and potential problems with the fuel pipe that may pose a fire risk. Various models of Toyota and Lexus sold globally are affected by this recall, this includes 250 units of Lexus LS (left below) and IS (right below) sold in Malaysia.
As for now, Toyota is not aware of any crashes, injuries or fatalities caused by this defect. The Japanese firm has recalled 802,000 cars, consist of Crown Majesta, Crown, Noah and Voxy models produced between June 2007 and June 2012, over a brake issue. A rubber seal ring in the brake master cylinder will be replaced to prevent brake fluid from leaking. If brake fluid has already leaked, the brake booster will be replaced.
On the other note, 759,000 models, consist of Lexus models manufactured between January 2005 and September 2010, will be recalled over the faulty fuel delivery pipe system. That problem will cause a fuel leak that could cause the vehicle to catch fire.
Closer to home, Lexus Malaysia has already been notified from Toyota Motor Corporation in Japan and has already contacted its customers around Malaysia for a special service campaign. Customers will then need to go to the nearest Lexus service centre to carry out the necessary corrective measures.
To date, Toyota has recalled over 11 million vehicles alone this year, putting another setback to this Japanese firm that builds its name through its reliable and high-quality products.
As the IS is also a common model here purchased via the reconditioned route, we would like to advise owners to send in their cars to be checked as well.
