In conjunction with Ford’s Global Week of Caring, all 48 Ford dealers across Malaysia will be conducting charity efforts by collecting essentials such as food and clothing to be donated to a shelter or home within their respective communities.

These initiatives are among 310 community service projects to be completed during Ford Motor Company’s 9th annual Global Week of Caring. More than 13,000 volunteers from Ford operations on six continents – Africa, Asia, Australia, Europe, North America and South America – will contribute 81,000 hours of expertise and labour to improve their communities.

“Ford Global Week of Caring is one of the many ways Ford and its employees are going further to improve the quality of life for people in the communities where we live and work,” said Jim Vella, president, Ford Motor Company Fund and Community Services. “Ford employees embrace the company’s legacy of caring and the importance of giving back. As Ford expands globally, our commitment to creating a better world grows with it.”

In addition to thousands of employee volunteers taking part in Ford Global Week of Caring, the company is also contributing funds to non-profit agencies to purchase the tools, supplies and materials needed to complete many of the community service projects.

In Asia Pacific, 5,300 Ford volunteers will participate in over 80 projects in China, India, Taiwan, Australia, New Zealand, Thailand, Indonesia, Vietnam, Philippines, and Malaysia, as well as seven emerging markets. Projects across the region this year include:

  1. Cambodia: Building an education facility at a primary school in a rural area
  2. Singapore: Volunteering at a community hospital to work with the elderly
  3. Laos: Volunteering at a local hospital
  4. Guam: Cleanup at school bus stops, volunteering at a retirement home, fundraising for the Boy Scouts of Guam
  5. Vanuatu: Roadside and beach cleanup and donation of water tank to the local community
  6. Tahiti: Cleanup and rejuvenation project at a local orphanage
  7. New Caledonia: Helping young children with intellectual disabilities by providing educational materials and toys
  8. Thailand: Conducting a recycling programme and installing educational equipment at a school
  9. China: Cleaning up coastlines and rivers

While the Ford Volunteer Corps is active throughout the year, Ford Global Week of Caring is the highlight of a year-round effort to flex the volunteer muscle of Ford employees, retirees and dealers to make a positive difference in the neighbourhoods and communities where the company does business.
