Here you have it fellas, the much-anticipated Jaguar XE has been revealed to the world during a star-studded event held at Earls Court, London recently.
Set to become one of the most important Jaguars ever launched, the Jaguar XE follows in the footsteps of the XF and adopts a stylish exterior that is instantly recognizable as a Jaguar. The XE now completes the Jaguar sedan car range sitting below the XF and XJ models.
The aluminium-intensive Jaguar XE is the first model developed from Jaguar Land Rover’s new modular vehicle architecture and will set the standard for driving dynamics in the midsize segment. The long wheelbase and low seating position enable perfect proportions and a streamlined, coupé-like profile.
The picture above is actually the S variant. It features large front air intakes, chrome side vents, discreet rear spoiler and optional 20-inch forged alloy wheels.
The cabin on the other hand, provides excellent levels of comfort and spaciousness. Exquisite materials and finishes, combined with traditional Jaguar craftsmanship make this an interior like nothing else in the class, says the British firm. Jaguar also confirmed there will be a choice of gloss black, textured aluminium or contemporary wood trim for the cabin.
Apart from that, the interior will come packed with the latest technology including a laser head-up display and a new In-control infotainment system with an 8-inch display. The latter system boasts Bluetooth / USB connectivity, a Wi-Fi hotspot and an assortment of apps. Apple and Android smartphone owners can also connect to the car wirelessly and access a variety of systems including the climate control system and door locks.
The XE S will be powered by a supercharged 3.0-litre V6 engine that produces 340PS and 450Nm of torque. It will be connected to an 8-speed automatic transmission which will enable the car to accelerate from 0-100km/h in 4.9 seconds before hitting an electronically limited top speed of 250 km/h.
The XE S will be joined by other models powered by a 2.0-litre, four-cylinder petrol and diesel engines matched to a 6-speed manual and 8-speed automatic transmissions. Full specifications will be announced in Paris but Jaguar says the diesel will enable the model to return 3.7 litre / 100km with CO2 emissions of 99 g/km.
The XE is also the lightest, stiffest and most aerodynamic Jaguar sedan ever built as the car rides on an all-new modular platform that uses more than 75% aluminium for its body structure. Most of the exterior is made from aluminium, including the hood, roof, front and rear fenders, and doors, while the rear floor and boot lid are made from traditional steel. As a result, the XE S weighs 1,475 kg.
It is also the first Jaguar to be equipped with electric power steering, tuned to provide responsiveness and feel but with lower energy consumption than hydraulic systems.
Set to go on sale in the first half of 2015, the entire range of XE will be unveiled at the Paris Motor Show in October with full details to be revealed closer to its launch date.
