The Road Transport Department ( JPJ ) has announced that it will take action against drivers who commit road offences by using accessory lights and non-standard regulation number plates on vehicles starting 1 October 2014. Drivers who fail to comply with the new regulation will be compounded RM300.
According to JPJ, these accessory lights are amongst the many reasons that contribute to road accidents in Malaysia. There are a few pointers that falls into this category. This include;
- HID lamps in retrofit installations
- Flashing lights (other than signal lights and hazard lights ) on the front or rear of the car
- Installation of additional white lights / amber on the front and other red / amber lights on the back
