Barbados set to host 2014 Race of Champions

Race Of Champions

Following the cancellation of the 2013 Race of Champions (ROC) in Thailand, the organisers have moved the event to the Caribbean. With that, this year’s Race Of Champions will take place at the Bushy Park Circuit in Barbados on December 13-14, 2014.

The ROC is an annual event where at the end of each year, participants from various motorsport disciplines will gather for battle of supremacy among racing drivers. The participants consist of Formula One drivers, NASCAR drivers, MotoGP riders, rally drivers and so on will battle head-to-head in identical machinery. This is also the first time the event held not in a sports stadium, with past venues including Stade de France, Wembley, and China’s ‘Bird Nest’ Olympic stadium.

RoC organiser Fredrik Johnsson said: “The Bushy Park circuit was one of the most popular venues in our vote and we are very excited to be heading to Barbados for another festival of motorsport and entertainment.

“This marks a break from our last 10 years of stadium events but this is a throwback to our long-time home at Gran Canaria, which hosted RoC from 1992 to 2003. We will certainly return to stadium events in the future but for 2014, we will take advantage of the available space to build a truly spectacular parallel track at Bushy Park.”

The Bushy Park Circuit at Barbados has a 40-year history of hosting big racing events. The circuit has been upgraded from 1.3km to a licensed FIA Grade 3 circuit just over 2km long with a capacity for tens of thousands of spectators. The venue also hosted “Top Gear Live” in May this year, where Lewis Hamilton and Ken Block were featured in that event.
