Malaysia’s Hafizh Syahrin of Petronas Raceline Malaysia was in seventh heaven after he achieved his best result by finishing in seventh place in the Red Bull Indianapolis GP in United States of America. The race in Indianapolis was the tenth race of the 2014 season. Hafizh is currently in his first season in Moto2, the second highest feeder motorcycle racing series prior to the premier MotoGP class.

Starting the race in twentieth place, the 20 year old surged, passing other riders and trying to break into the top ten. The race was red flagged in lap four when a multi-rider accident saw Mattia Pasini momentarily knocked out. When the race restarted, Hafizh began at fourteen and never looked back. At one point he was at sixth, but in the end he settled for seventh.

This was his best finish yet after his tenth place finish at Assen, Netherlands. He is now at 21th on the rider’s standing with 18 points. “It’s really hard to put into words what had just happened and how ecstatic I am with this result. Unlike the previous races, it was unbelievable how many riders I passed to finish seventh,” said Hafizh.

“After overtaking a number of riders, I continued my good run with nothing else in mind except finishing the race.”

Team manager, Barry Leong said in his statement, “An excellent performance by the young rider. I admit, it’s not easy for us to reach up to this point, especially Hafizh but he did an exceptional job.”

“The Moto2 class as we know is one highly-competitive category in premier level racing but Hafizh has proved his worth to sit right next to champions. We however, will not sit comfortably as there are many challenges waiting for us in the next round in Czech Republic.”
