Motor Image Malaysia has just unveiled the highly anticipated Subaru WRX and the WRX STI here in Malaysia! The new models are priced at RM229,800 for the base model WRX and RM269,800 for the high-performance WRX STI.
Under the bonnet of the all-new WRX STI sits a 2.5-litre turbocharged/inter-cooled 4-cylinder Boxer engine that employs the Dual Active Valve Control System (Dual AVCS). The engine, which is exclusive to the WRX STI, produces 305 horsepower (SAE) at 6,000 rpm and 407Nm of peak torque at 4,000 rpm mated with a 6-speed manual transmission.
The WRX 2.0-litre, 4-cylinder Boxer engine on the base model WRX on the other hand, produces 268 horsepower at 5,600 rpm, accompanied by a broad torque curve that peaks at 350Nm over a 2,000-5,200 rpm engine speed range. It is paired with a ‘Lineartronic’ CVT transmission that delivers an ultra-smooth driving character with the choice of stepped automatic shifting eight pre-selected ratios (when in Sport Sharp mode) and also 6-speed and 8-speed manual shifting modes using steering wheel paddle switches.
Models with the Sport Lineartronic also feature Subaru Intelligent Drive (SI-DRIVE), a powertrain performance management system that allows the driver to tailor the vehicle’s driving characteristics by choosing from among three selectable modes – “Intelligent,” “Sport” and “Sport Sharp” – using a switch on the flat-bottom steering wheel.
Handling is further enhanced with a stiffer chassis, firmer springs and faster steering response (13.0:1 ratio). Exclusive to the WRX STI is the Brembo Performance Brake System that uses ventilated 4-wheel Super Sport anti-lock (ABS) disc brakes with Electronic Brake-force Distribution (EBD). Taking input from a lateral G-sensor, a steering angle sensor, a yaw sensor and a brake pressure sensor, Super Sport ABS can control the braking forces at each rear wheel independently, which optimizes braking ability during hard cornering to help reduce understeer.
Inside you’ll be able to find rich-looking appointments and details, including soft-touch materials for the dashboard, door trim and centre console armrest.The dual gauge instrument layout features a 3.5-inch LCD central screen to display various functions, including oil level, remaining washer fluid and selected gear ratio. A new multi-information central display with 4.3-inch LCD screen provides a multitude of vehicle system functions, including a rear camera display, a boost gauge display, audio, Bluetooth and climate control settings, and a VDC screen showing traction control operation. The display can provide a vehicle self-check and maintenance reminder.
The base model WRX comes equipped with whiplash-reducing front sport seats, covered in a new high-grip fabric as standard while the WRX STI comes with Alcantara seating surfaces accented by red and black leather bolsters and red stitching. Leather seats with trim leather double stitching are also available as an option.
Available in Ice Silver, Cystal White Pearl, Lightning Red, Crystal Black Silica and WR Blue Pearl, the fully imported Subaru WRX and WRX STI is now open for booking at all Subaru Showrooms across Malaysia.
In conjunction with the official launch, Motor Image has flown in world-renowned driver and Guinness World Record holder Russ Swift to demonstrate his precision driving in the new Subaru WRX STI.
