Since it was first introduced in Malaysia back in 2009, Mitsubishi Pajero Sport is now owned by more than 5000 customers throughout the country according to the CEO of Mitsubishi Motors Malaysia, Tetsuya Oda. Despite the healthy numbers, the company still aims to further strengthen Pajero Sport position in the market by unveiling the enhanced Pajero Sport VGT and GL for 2013.
The enhancements don’t come in terms of performance though but instead, it is in the form of several cosmetic changes and new features. Among such aspects are the front bumper and grille design. Both of the new VGT and GL variants also receives newly designed 17-inch and 16-inch alloy wheels respectively.
There are also white turn signal rear tail lamp, colour-keyed side mirror with signal indicator, auto rain & light sensor, and a RV meter. Furthermore, the new VGT model now comes with nappa leather seats.
In terms of performance, the Pajero Sport VGT still retain the same maximum output of 178 PS at 4,000 rpm together with maximum torque of 350Nm at 1,800 to 3,500 rpm. This is due to the fact that it still relies on the same intercooled 2.5-litre turbocharged diesel engine with Variable Geometry Turbo technology from previous Pajero Sport VGT model.
Other related features that Mitsubishi have retained from previous VGT model for the new VGT variant that was launched earlier today are the 5-speed INVECS-II automatic transmission with Sport Mode, magnesium paddle shifters, hybrid-type Limited Slip Differential system and Super Select 4WD drive system.
The same case goes for the new Pajero Sport GL variant as well; which is equipped with the same intercooled 2.5-litre turbocharged diesel engine from its predecessor that produces maximum output of 136 PS at 3,500 rpm and maximum torque of 314 Nm at 2,000 rpm. Also remain the same is its 4-speed INVECS-II automatic transmission with Sport Mode.
With four colours to choose from (White Pearl, Quartz Brown Metallic, Cool Silver Metallic, and Black Mica), the Pajero Sport VGT is priced at RM172,211.60 while the Pajero Sport GL goes for RM151,277.60 – both are on-the-road prices without insurance. Both models are protected by 5-year/unlimited mileage km warranty and Mitsubishi’s 2-years free maintenance package.
