Admittedly the Toyota Prius is the car petrolheads love to hate, where the Prius’ green credentials spell “Blasphemy” for those who love driving. Just recently, Toyota took the Prius hybrid to the Nurburgring and set a new record, in an unusual way.
The Prius that clocked the Nurburgring was equipped with a TRD aerokit, low-resistance tyres and fully charged battery. A UK writer, Joe Clifford, took the wheel of the Prius and drove at the track’s minimum speed of 60km/h.
In the end, the Prius TRD completed the 21km track in 20 minutes and 59 seconds, making it perhaps the slowest car ever at the ‘Ring. But knowingly the Prius’ km/liter is more important than km/h, the car averaged an impressive 296.75 km/liter! Only five teaspoons of petrol were used and the engine was believed to have kicked-in just once. This is also far better than the car’s official combined cycle figure of 57km/liter.
So a green car excels in the “green hell” (forgive the pun) does tell a lot for the Prius. Shame about the latest non-subsidised Prius pricing in Malaysia though.
