The words “Mitsubishi” and “Evolution” have been missing for quite some time in the world of motorsports. However, recently these aforementioned words had resurfaced after the Mitsubishi MiEV Evolution III cars took the top two spots in this year’s Pikes Peak International Hill Climb.
In the Electric Modified Division, Greg Tracy took top honours by finishing the hill climb course with the fastest time of 9 minutes 08 seconds. Hiroshi Masuoka completed the course at 9 minutes 12 seconds to become runner up in the category. Tracy and Masuoka also became the second and the third fastest in the overall standings, with Tracy holding the new record in the electric Modified Division. This year’s overall title was won by Romain Dumas, driving the Norma at 9 minutes 05 seconds.
This is also Mitubishi’s third attempt to claim victory at Pikes Peak as a platform to develop and evaluate EV cars and components. The MiEV Evolution III is an enhancement over last year’s Evolution II with increased power, improved aerodynamics, reduced weight, and improvement on Mitsubishi’s technologies; including S-AWC (Super-All Wheel Control). Such technologies could determine the future of Mitsubishi road cars, including the next generation Lancer Evolution car.
