Sunday Musings: Accidents and Animals

A driver in Canada was driving along the highway when she spotted a group of ducklings. Being an animal love, Emma Czornobaj, decided to park her car on the left lane of the highway (thats the fast lane) to rescue the ducklings as she couldn’t see their mother about. Because of her parked car, just within seconds, a motorcyclist and his daughter, riding in a Harley-Davidson, crashed behind the car killing both of them.

Recently the jury in a Canadian court found Czornobaj guilty of two counts each of criminal negligence causing death, which carries a maximum life sentence, and dangerous operation of a motor vehicle causing death.

As social media spreads around here in Malaysia, we all tend to get similar updates and stories in this exact same nature. Whilst I had heard of people complaining on social media of the car behind them honking at them when they jammed their brakes in order to avoid hitting an animal, this topic is indeed open to a lot of opinions and views. There are cases where drivers swerve to avoid hitting animals and crashing into houses. Other cases around Malaysia where drivers hit larger sized animals and died in the collision.

I have had my fair share of collisions with animals, from me hitting a crow on the highway where the bird literally smashed straight through my front bumper and splattered all over my intercooler and radiator, to me grazing a naughty monkey along the Ulu Yam route (I avoided running over it and just grazed it by the side). I was told by the driver behind me that the monkey was ok.

So what are your thoughts around this?
