Audi continued its dominant string of victories in the Le Mans 24 Hours that was held last weekend where Marcel Fässle, André Lotterer, Benoît Tréluyer and Lucas di Grassi, Marc Gené, Tom Kristensen thundered home to a one-two Audi victory.
It marked the 13th Le Mans success for Audi and may have been the most valuable one to date, as Audi Sport Team Joest prevailed against massive competition from Le Mans returnee Porsche and Toyota.
Nonetheless, one cannot help but praise Porsche for returning to Le Mans after a 16-year absence and putting on a great show. Granted, they had been working on the 919 race car for at least three years, tuning its unusual V4 engine-electric motor combo to perfection, and yet it wasn’t enough, because Audi showed off its superior experience and dominated the podium. This could have been their 17th Le Mans title until both Porsche cars succumbed to mechanical failures in the closing stages of the race.
To show a brave face despite their loss, Porsche has released a rather inspirational video that praises Audi’s victory and reminds all viewers that it’s not always about winning in a not so overly-dramatic way… well, almost!
