Mercedes-Benz has revised the four-door CLS Coupé and the CLS Shooting Brake with both design icons now featuring revised styling, new powertrains and updated technical innovations. Other unique features in the refreshed CLS is its futuristic Multibeam LED headlamps that comes as standard.

The new Multibeam LED headlights  are equipped with 24 individually-controlled LEDs that can be automatically adjusted 100 times per second by using a camera and four control units. The high-tech system is capable of detecting oncoming vehicles or vehicles ahead, and can automatically adjust the light beam so that it won’t affect other road-users.

Moreover, the headlights can also detect upcoming bends and illuminate them ahead of time while the navigation system will detect roundabouts and then the headlight beam will be modified to provide optimal visibility.

Other changes for the latest generation model include a new chrome diamond radiator grille, a front bumper with large air intakes and slightly darkened tail-lights. The cabin also features upgrades, including a redesigned three-spoke sports steering wheel.

Customers will have a choice of five engines. A new addition in this class is the CLS 220 BlueTEC with four-cylinder diesel engine featuring fourth-generation common rail direct injection, two-stage turbocharging and BlueTEC technology. It produces 170 hp and offers maximum torque of 400 Nm. 204 hp and torque of 500 Nm are on tap from the four-cylinder diesel unit in the CLS 250 BlueTEC. The V6 diesel unit in the CLS 350 BlueTEC exceeds these figures with 258 hp and torque of 620 Nm.

Equally new is the V6 petrol engine with turbocharging in the CLS 400 with a 3.5 litre displacement and biturbo drive. Compared to its predecessor with a naturally aspirated engine, it produces 26 hp more with 333 hp. Its torque increases by 110 Nm to 480 Nm and is available in the wide engine speed range of 1200 to 4000 rpm. Last but not least, the CLS 500 with 408 hp and up to 600 Nm of torque leads the field in the power output ratings. Meanwhile, the AMG-powered CLS and CLS Shooting Brake continue with a V8 5.5-litre bi-turbo delivering 557 PS & 720 Nm and 585 PS & 800 Nm in the S-Model.

Also making its way into the range is Mercedes’ latest nine-speed 9G-TRONIC automatic gearbox as an option. This new gearbox promises to reduce fuel consumption while “enhancing shift comfort and agility.”
