Spied numerous times over the past couple of months, Proton will be introducing a new MPV to this lineup later this month.
Tentatively called the Proton Ertiga, this Suzuki Ertiga-derived MPV will challenge the popular Perodua Alza locally, with prices said to be almost identical to the Alza, if not cheaper.
In terms of dimensions, the Perodua Alza comes in at 4270 mm x 1695 mm x 1620 mm, while the Ertiga is 4,265 mm x 1,695 mm x 1,685 mm. Both these MPVs are very similar in length, though the Alza boasts a slightly longer wheelbase at 2,750 mm, versus the Ertiga’s 2,740 mm. Width is identical for the Ertiga and Alza, though the Ertiga is a tad bit taller.
While the Perodua Alza draws its power from a 1.5-litre DVVT four-cylinder engine, the Ertiga is powered by a 1.4-litre K14B four-cylinder engine that’s identical to the Suzuki Swift. Perodua is offering the Alza with the choice of a five-speed manual and a four-speed auto, though we can expect the Ertiga to be offered solely with the choice of a four-speed automatic.
Additionally, the Proton Ertiga could be offered in two trim levels, with the Premium variant likely to feature black leather upholstery. Fabric upholstery can be expected for the lesser variant, possibly in beige. Safety kit for the Ertiga could potentially mirror that of the Perodua Alza, featuring twin SRS airbags up front, ABS with EBD, seatbelts with pre-tensioners, immobilizer and side impact beams.
