The folks over at Renault Sport has just announced the new edition of the Renault Megane R.S., the Megane R.S. 275 Trophy. As the name suggests, the car will have 10hp more compared to the previous version which was the Megane RS 265. With 275hp under the bonnet and 360Nm of torque available for the driver, this car is definitely there to create stir in the automotive scene.
This car will sport Ohlins suspensions mated with the Akrapovic exhaust as mentioned earlier and will aim to complete a lap around the Nurburgring in under 8 minutes, hence the hashtag #UNDER8. That is a tough time to beat especially since Renault Sport is also looking to regain the title of fastest FWD hot hatch from SEAT’s Leon Cupra. The Akrapovic exhaust is a titanium exhaust system which does provide weight saving benefits as well as provide the driver with a sportier rumble. The Ohlins suspension will be provided as an option rather than standard with the 275 Trophy.
As a comparison and with a little local flavour, the Renault Megane RS250 completed a lap around Sepang in 2mins 43secs, driven by former A1GP driver, Denis Lian. When the RS265 was released, Denis took it around Sepang and completed a lap in 2mins 41secs, 2 seconds faster! I believe this new model will fly much quicker and I am guessing (no bets!) that it can do a 2mins 36 secs around Sepang. This car will be paired with Michelin’s Pilot Sport Cup 2 tyres where it was joint developed with Michelin specifically for this new limited-edition front-wheel drive car.
And why is this important for Renault? Wouldn’t you be angry if you were the reigning champion and someone just kicked you out of your throne? One thing which caught my eye are the seats which are from Recaro and beautifully stitched in red accents and a mix of alcantara and leather. Gives me an idea on how I should rewrap my own Recaro Sportster CS in the future.
Order bookings will commence in June and Malaysia is definitely one of their target markets.
