With the bellowing of performance cars, track cars and road cars around the paddock area during the Ignition.my’s track day, hidden within Pit 4, surrounded by barbecue pits and the smell of burgers and hotdogs, the SNF 2014 series was launched. Formerly known as Saturday Night Fever, Matrix Motorsports Promotion has decided to rebrand it to SNF, Ignition.my took advantage of this to launch its staple “SNF Racing” series, as well as a brand new grassroots=level series named “SNF Touge battle” for regions outside of Klang Valley.
Any sort of event which brings racing out of the streets into a controlled manner and in the circuits, is something that we here at Autofreaks support. The new SNF Touge Battle series wil run for 6-rounds up and down the country, and will take place at kart circuits such as UniMAP circuit in Perlis, and Melaka International Motorsport Circuit in Ayer Keroh. SNF Principal Director, Adian Yein explains, “This allows SNF to expand to regions of enthusiasts that may have not previously been able to participate in SNF Racing due to geographical boundaries and logistical limitations. SNF Touge Battle provides a beginners introduction to door-to-door racing, which is what SNF advocates.”
There are some changes this year and 2014 will see a control tyre regulation being introduced for the first time. SNF Motorsports Director, Faisal Asri says that with this in place it will eliminate tyres as a performance factor and to help control rising costs. This will then allow teams to focus on performance as a whole and driver skill. The only exception is for the Racing Cars category which allows the cars to use semi slick tyres.
The official tyres for SNF 2014 will be Achilles Radial for cars and Corsa Motorcycle Tires for motorbikes. Ignition.my has further committed to the growing SNF series by working together with Sepang International Circuit (SIC) to improve the facilities such as the toilets at the South track and additional lighting as well. One of the complaints that were received were the toilet facilities at the south part of the track, hence the negotiation with SIC to get it improved.
In addition to get more spectators, there will be a SNF Precision Driving Challenge (SNF PDC) at the Grandstand area, which anyone can participate in. It will be set up as a slalom course and spectators can take as many turns as they like to run through the slalom course to achieve it within the fastest time.
SNF Racing 2014 will feature 6 rounds, 4 at the South track at SIC and 2 at the North track including a 45-minute endurance race, coined Enduro Race for 2 drivers per car. For each round, the action starts at 7.00pm till midnight with spectator tickets priced at RM30 for Paddock access, and RM10 for Grandstand access.
