At the Concorso d’Eleganza Villa d’Este 2014, MINI has unveiled an open-top two-seater concept dubbed the Superleggera Vision.
This sports car was produced in conjunction with Italian coachbuilders and it could possibly become a new roadster model in the mould of the Mazda MX-5.
Touring Superleggera features stretched bonnet, long wheelbase and cool, short overhangs. The passenger cell is slightly set back, further underscoring the car’s dynamic impression.
Many classic Mini design cues have been carried over from the third-generation of the modern day hatchback, including the hexagonal shaped grille, oval shaped headlamps, a three-spoke steering wheel and bonnet stripes. They are combined with a series of traditional styling touches found on a long history of Touring Superleggera designed and produced models.
Overall, the body of the Touring Superleggera is more heavily structured than that of existing MINI models. Other notables styling highlights include a carbon fibre front splitter, carbon fibre reinforced plastic side sills and a distinctive rear fin.
MINI has provided the Superleggera Vision with a simple cabin that aims to capture the essence of classic coachwork construction. It is elegantly equipped with leather upholstery, an aluminium-covered dashboard, a digital instrument cluster and an analogue clock. Bars in the doors also pay homage to MINI’s British roots by joining the tail lamps in resembling the Union Jack.
MINI did not mention anything about the car’s powerplant but they did confirm that the Superleggera Vision is an electric vehicle that uses a single electric motor.
