While the current new Mazda 3 is enjoying sales success worldwide, hang on to your hats because the hotter 3, aka the MPS version is coming. According to insider sources from Japan, Mazda is considering a new MPS for the new 3, powered by a 2.5-litre turbocharged engine and mated an all-wheel drive system.
The Japanese source also revealed that Mazda has successfully integrated its SkyActiv-G ‘s high-compression engine with forced induction, making it the first ever turbocharged SkyActiv unit from Mazda. Mazda’s Skyactiv petrol engine range optimises heat-efficiency and high-compression ratios with the aim of delivering excellent performance while maintaining good fuel economy figures.
The turbocharged SkyActiv-G engine has been tested to produce an amazing 298bhp. Mazda is targeting the new MPS to be ready by 2016, making it yet another hot-hatch from the East to fend-off the barrage of hot-hatches from Europe.
