Porsche introduces new entry-level Macan in Beijing

Porsche Macan 2.0-litre

At the 2014 Beijing Motor Show, Porsche has premièred a new entry-level Macan powered by a four-cylinder engine for the Asian market.

The new Macan, which runs on parent company Volkswagen’s EA888 engine, is the first Porsche model since the 968 sportscar of the early 1990s to use a four-cylinder power.

It features a turbocharged 2.0-litre in-line 4-cylinder petrol engine which generates 237hp and 350Nm of peak torque. Paired with Porsche’s dual-clutch PDK automatic transmission and standard all-wheel drive, the Macan is capable of reaching 100 km/h from standstill in 6.9 seconds and tops out at 223km/h, with Porsche claiming fuel economy of 7.2 litres per 100 kilometres.

The base can be visually distinguished by standard 18-inch wheels and twin trapezoidal-shaped tail pipes. While the Macan hasn’t been launched in Malaysia yet, there is a possibility that this entry-level model could arrive in our local showrooms soon.
