Facelifted Nissan Almera to debut in New York Motor Show

Nissan is set to debut the face-lifted version of the ever popular B-segment saloon, the Almera, in the upcoming New York Motor Show. The midlife facelift is set to make major amendments in the interior, not forgetting the exterior aesthetics as well.

Just like a typical facelift from a Japanese manufacturer, no new engines or gearbox will be introduced, so expect the 1.5-litre engine with 5-speed or 4-speed automatic gearbox to remain (at least in Malaysia’s context). However, knowing Almera’s biggest problem is the exterior aesthetics, Nissan has introduced changes ranging from reshaped headlights, restyled grille and a sharper front bumper. The sporty variant looks a tad better with a large lip spoiler and a remodelled rear bumper with a diffuser-style lower black plastic insert.

Bigger changes went to the interior as a new dashboard console is introduced which gets restyled air conditioning controls, new steering design, revised instrument cluster with white LED backlighting and a new infotainment system. Complementing the updated dashboard is the new fabric for the seats.

In the US, it is well known as the Versa sedan and it is among the cheapest new cars to be sold there as well. Meanwhile, in Malaysia the Almera was debuted by ETCM in late 2012 and was one of the big players of the country’s B-segment market. So, expect to see a facelifted Almera in Malaysia somewhere in 2015.
