Mazda 3 1.5 High Plus Returns to Malaysia

Mazda fans in Malaysia, get excited — the 1.5-litre Mazda 3 is making a comeback, and it’s not the humble entry-level model you remember. This time, Bermaz is bringing it back with a twist: it’s rebranded, re-specced, and priced to impress.

According to reports from Carz.com.my, Bermaz has quietly started allowing authorised dealers to take early pre-bookings for the 2025 Mazda 3 1.5 High Plus. The new variant will be available in both sedan and hatchback (or liftback) forms, making it a tempting choice for those wanting Mazda’s signature design and driving dynamics in a more fuel-efficient package.

While the 1.5-litre version was previously available when the fourth-generation Mazda 3 first launched locally in 2019, it was only offered in a more modest ‘Mid’ trimline. That version was later discontinued, and from October 2023 onwards, only 2.0-litre variants remained — namely the High, High Plus, and the sporty Ignite Edition. But now, Bermaz is bringing the 1.5-litre engine back into the spotlight, pairing it with the upscale High Plus trim typically reserved for the 2.0-litre siblings.

What’s perhaps most surprising is the price. The new 2025 Mazda 3 1.5 High Plus is estimated to cost RM118,900, which is significantly lower than the previous 1.5 Mid variant that once sold for RM149,320. And this time around, it’s not stripped down. In fact, it’s packed with high-end features that make it feel anything but basic.

Mazda has equipped the new model with upscale appointments such as automatic climate control, leather upholstery, power-adjustable front seats, a larger 10.25-inch infotainment touchscreen, LED headlights with signature illumination, and both front and rear parking sensors, along with a reverse camera. Most importantly, it includes a comprehensive Advanced Driver Assistance System (ADAS), putting it on par with many premium offerings. This is a dramatic upgrade from the old Mid trim, which had halogen headlamps, fabric seats, smaller 8.8-inch infotainment, and limited safety tech.

Under the hood, the car continues to be powered by a 1.5-litre Skyactiv-G petrol engine, producing 118 horsepower and 153 Nm of torque. While it’s not as punchy as the 2.0-litre version, it offers a more efficient and economical option without compromising on quality or design. This version still carries all the visual appeal and driving poise of the Mazda 3, just with a more budget-friendly and efficient engine choice.

The car will remain a fully imported (CBU) model and is expected to start deliveries in September 2025, right around the same time as the upcoming Mazda CX-60. Customers can also expect the usual Bermaz perks — a five-year or 100,000 km warranty, along with a free maintenance package that adds extra peace of mind.
