BMW Concept Speedtop Debuts: A Shooting Brake With Muscle And Style

BMW is back with another stunner—meet the Concept Speedtop, a limited-run shooting brake that blends grand touring vibes with head-turning style and serious V8 performance. Unveiled at the prestigious Concorso d’Eleganza Villa d’Este 2025, this latest concept is basically what happens when BMW takes the freedom of a concept car and infuses it with real production intent. And yes, they’re actually going to build it—just 70 units worldwide.

If the name sounds familiar, you’re probably thinking of last year’s Concept Skytop, the cabriolet that stole the show. Well, the Speedtop is its fixed-roof sibling, sharing a lot of the same design DNA but adding a sporty, coupe-wagon twist. The standout shooting brake silhouette gets even more dramatic thanks to a roof that fades from “Floating Sunstone Maroon” to “Floating Sundown Silver”—a paint treatment that adds an almost liquid-metal look in the sunlight.

Running right down the centre of the car, from the long bonnet to the sculpted rear spoiler, is a bold central spine that amps up the dynamic vibe. BMW didn’t stop there—the Speedtop rolls on exclusive two-tone 14-spoke wheels and borrows the razor-thin taillights from the Skytop, which are officially the slimmest ever fitted to a BMW.

Step inside, and you’ll find yourself in a cockpit that feels equal parts luxurious and performance-focused. Based on the layout of the BMW M8 Competition, the cabin is awash in premium two-tone leather—“Moonstone White” meets “Sundown Maroon”—wrapping nearly every surface. Even the boot doesn’t escape the upscale treatment, with the same two-tone leather lining and a clean, divided layout for added practicality. Oh, and there’s a sleek beam of light tracing the roofline inside, echoing that central exterior spine. Subtle, but cool.

BMW didn’t skimp on the finishing touches either. Buyers will also get a bespoke leather travel bag crafted by Schedoni—the Italian masters of luxury automotive accessories. A classy touch that underscores just how high-end this concept really is.

Under the bonnet? While BMW hasn’t spilled the full spec sheet, they did confirm it’ll house their most powerful V8 to date. That likely means the twin-turbo 4.4-litre from the M5 CS—good for 635 hp and 750 Nm of torque. That engine launches the M5 CS from 0-100 km/h in just 3.0 seconds and on to a 305 km/h top speed, so expect similar performance figures here. All-wheel drive via BMW’s M xDrive and an eight-speed Steptronic gearbox are expected to round out the drivetrain.

Now, let’s talk design language. BMW’s recent styling choices (yeah, we’re looking at you, “Beaver Tooth” grille) have stirred more than a few internet debates. But the Concept Speedtop seems to rise above the noise. It’s sleek, bold, and unmistakably BMW—with just the right blend of retro-cool shooting brake vibes and modern performance flair. It’s the kind of design that makes enthusiasts do a double take—and want one immediately.

With only 70 units being made, though, it’s clear this won’t be a car for the masses. Like the Skytop’s ultra-exclusive 50-car run, the Speedtop will live in collector garages and private collections. But here’s hoping this beautiful concept inspires more adventurous styling in BMW’s future production cars. If this is what “The Ultimate Driving Machine” looks like in 2025, we’re all for it.
