Roar Meets Rugged: Land Rover Defender V8 Lands In Malaysia

The legend is back – and this time, it’s louder, meaner, and seriously powerful. Land Rover Malaysia has officially unleashed the Defender V8, and if you’re into bold statements on and off the road, this beast might just be your next ride.

Now available in two mighty forms – the Defender 110 V8 and the Defender 130 V8 – this launch isn’t just about bringing in big engines. It’s about redefining what a luxury off-roader can be. Starting at a cool RM998,000 for the 110 and RM1.198 million for the stretched-out 130, these aren’t your everyday SUVs – they’re rolling thunder on four wheels.

Big Heart, Bigger Roar

Let’s talk about the main event – that glorious 5.0-litre supercharged AJ-V8 petrol engine. Under the hood of the Defender 110, it pumps out a wild 525PS and 625Nm of torque, launching from 0-100 km/h in just 5.4 seconds. The 130 V8 tones it down just a notch (but still wild), offering 500PS and 610Nm of torque, sprinting to 100 km/h in 5.7 seconds.

And yes, it sounds every bit as wild as it goes. A quad outboard-mounted exhaust setup delivers a deep, iconic V8 growl that’s as much a part of the experience as the engine itself. This isn’t just a car – it’s a rolling concert for gearheads.

Built to Be Wild – and Refined

Don’t let the aggressive specs fool you. Inside, it’s all about plush, purposeful design. The Defender 110 V8 gets 40:20:40 split-folding heated rear seats, complete with a centre armrest – great for chilling in between off-road sprints. The Defender 130 V8, on the other hand, cranks up the versatility with 60:40 manual slide-and-recline rear seats, third-row seating, and enough room for eight adventurers (or seven plus your pet rhino, honestly).

Draped in a combo of Windsor leather and Kvadrat fabric, with metallic grey dashboard beams, the interior is a slick fusion of rugged charm and modern luxury. It’s practical, premium, and unapologetically Defender.

Stretched and Styled

If size matters – the 130 V8 has you covered. With a length of 5,538mm, it gains an extra 340mm rear overhang compared to the 110, making it longer than a Mercedes-Benz S-Class V223. That said, its wheelbase (3,022mm), width (2,008mm), and height (1,970mm) remain identical to the 110.

Outside, both models stay true to the Defender DNA – squared-off, rugged, and ready for anything. Unique 22-inch matte grey five-spoke wheels, V8 badging, and that signature quad exhaust bring the swagger. It’s Land Rover, but dialled up to 11.

More Than Muscle

Performance-wise, the Defender V8s come kitted with everything you expect from a proper off-roader: a full-time 4WD system, Terrain Response drive modes, and a 900mm water wading depth – enough to splash through rivers like a crocodile in a three-piece suit.

What makes these V8s extra spicy is their electronic limited-slip rear differential, which boosts agility with yaw control. Add to that retuned adaptive dampers, stiffer suspension bushes, and thicker anti-roll bars, and you’ve got a machine that handles like a dream whether you’re rock-crawling or carving highways.
