PDRM Testing the Peugeot 408—Could This Be Malaysia’s Next Patrol Car?

Social media was buzzing recently when a post by Asyraf revealed that the Royal Malaysian Police (PDRM) had rolled out the Peugeot 408 as a potential new patrol car. The rumour mill went wild—until it was confirmed that Peugeot Malaysia had indeed provided two units of the 408 for evaluation.

Puegeot 408 for PDRM

These aren’t just any 408s—they’re Allure-spec models, currently undergoing rigorous field tests to see if they’re tough enough to join the PDRM’s patrol lineup. While the exact loan period hasn’t been disclosed, these tests usually last three to six months, after which the vehicles are returned at no cost.

Switching Gears from Honda to Peugeot?

If the Peugeot 408 makes the cut, it’ll be a fresh change for PDRM. Right now, their patrol fleet is dominated by the Honda Civic, particularly the 11th-gen FE model and the 425 units of the FC-generation 1.8S received back in 2020. Before that, the force had been rolling with the pre-facelift Civic since 2016. A Peugeot in the mix? That’s a whole new vibe.

What’s Under the Hood?

The Peugeot 408 isn’t just about sleek looks—it packs some serious punch. Under the bonnet, you’ll find a 1.6-litre PureTech turbocharged inline-four engine, churning out 218 PS at 5,750 rpm and 300 Nm of torque at 2,000 rpm. Power is sent to the front wheels via an eight-speed automatic transmission, making it a solid contender for high-speed pursuits and city patrols alike.

It’s still early days, and there’s no guarantee the 408 will become a permanent fixture in the PDRM fleet. But one thing’s for sure—it’s got the power, the tech, and the style to shake things up. Could this be the beginning of a Peugeot-powered patrol era? Only time will tell!
