Toyota C-HR+: A Sporty New Hybrid With Serious Range

Toyota is shaking up the hybrid game again, this time with the all-new Toyota C-HR+, an electrified version of its stylish compact crossover. If you thought the standard C-HR was bold, this one turns things up a notch with more power, better range, and a sharper design.

Power and Performance

The C-HR+ comes in both front- and all-wheel-drive configurations, offering a choice between single- and dual-motor setups. The entry-level variant features a 165 hp (123 kW) electric motor, paired with a 57.7-kWh battery. For those craving more power, upgrading to the 77-kWh battery increases output to 221 hp (165 kW) while also extending range, with Toyota estimating a maximum of 373 miles (600 km), depending on trim and version.

For serious performance enthusiasts, the dual-motor, all-wheel-drive model is the real showstopper. Equipped with the larger battery, it delivers a combined 338 hp (252 kW), making it the most powerful Toyota in Europe outside of the GR Supra. This added muscle translates to a 0-62 mph (0-100 km/h) sprint in just 5.2 seconds, bringing hot-hatch levels of acceleration to the compact SUV segment.

Toyota hasn’t revealed exact charging times but confirms that the C-HR+ supports DC fast charging up to 150 kW. Additionally, Toyota claims the battery will retain at least 70% of its performance even after 10 years. The C-HR+ is built on the e-TNGA platform, meaning it shares more in common with the bZ4X than the standard C-HR.

A Design That Stands Out

The C-HR has always been a head-turner, and the C-HR+ pushes that even further. Toyota’s latest design language keeps it looking aggressive yet futuristic, with sleeker LED headlights, sharp creases, and an aerodynamic profile. The roofline gives off coupe-like vibes, reinforcing its sporty character.

Inside, expect a high-tech upgrade. Toyota has been stepping up its interior game, so the C-HR+ will likely feature a large digital display, premium materials, and a driver-focused cockpit. Tech lovers can also look forward to an upgraded infotainment system with the latest connectivity features.

C-HR+ vs. The Competition

With its mix of performance, efficiency, and striking design, the C-HR+ is shaping up to be a real alternative to traditional hot hatches and electric SUVs.

It takes on models like the Hyundai Ioniq 5 and Kia EV6, but with Toyota’s legendary hybrid expertise, it might just have the edge when it comes to real-world efficiency.

What’s Next?

Toyota hasn’t revealed an official launch date yet, but with teasers dropping, we can expect to see the C-HR+ hitting the roads sooner rather than later. Pricing is still under wraps, but given its power and range, it’ll likely sit at the premium end of Toyota’s hybrid lineup.
