Johor Motorsport Racing (JMR) is shaking up the racing world with a bold new move that could rewrite their legacy! After six thrilling years of tearing up the track with Triple Eight Race Engineering and Mercedes-AMG, JMR is taking a massive leap onto U.S. soil for the 2025 season. And they’re not just switching locations – they’re switching machines!
Chevrolet Joins the JMR Family
In a groundbreaking announcement, JMR has unveiled Chevrolet as their new constructor, marking a brand-new era for the team. But that’s not all – they’ve also revealed their all-new Chevrolet Corvette Z06 GT3.R race car, making them the first team in the region to field this beast with two entries for the upcoming season.
Meet the New Racing Beast: The Corvette Z06 GT3.R
This isn’t just any race car – the Corvette Z06 GT3.R is a track-ready monster built on the legendary road-legal Z06. While it still retains some of the Z06’s original DNA – including its aluminium chassis and double wishbone suspension – it’s been transformed into a pure racing machine thanks to the wizards at Pratt Miller Engineering in Michigan.
Now, let’s talk performance. Under the hood sits a 5.5-litre DOHC V8 that shares 70% of its components with the production Z06. However, due to IMSA regulations, power output is capped at 600 HP – a bit less than the road-going Z06’s 668 HP, but still plenty to tear up the track. Add in a full-blown race-ready roll cage, upgraded racing dampers, high-performance brakes, and this Corvette is more than ready to make a statement.
Royal Blood Behind the Wheel
This isn’t just about the car – it’s about who’s driving it. JMR’s 2025 campaign will be led by none other than Johor royalty – Tunku Panglima Johor Tunku Abdul Rahman Hassanal Jefri Sultan Ibrahim and Tunku Putera Johor Tunku Abu Bakar Sultan Ibrahim.
Mark Stielow, GM Motorsport’s Competition Engineering Director, shared his excitement about this historic collaboration:
“We are excited to watch and support Prince Jefri, Prince Abu Bakar, and all of JMR throughout the season.
We are also pleased to see the continued interest in our Corvette GT3 around the world and look forward to building this relationship with JMR, as it provides additional exposure and opportunities not just for Corvette Racing but also the Corvette brand in new markets.”
JMR’s Championship Legacy
Since making their debut in 2019, JMR has built a powerhouse reputation with three championship titles and 53 podium finishes. Their best season yet? 2022 – when they dominated the GT World Challenge Asia Team and Pro-Am Drivers’ Championships (Tunku Abdul Rahman) and conquered the GT Australia Endurance Championship.
Tunku Abdul Rahman has also been a Pro-Am runner-up in the 2021 GT World Challenge Australia and the 2024 Asian Le Mans Series, while his younger brother, Tunku Abu Bakar, proved his racing mettle by finishing drivers’ runner-up in the 2023 GT World Challenge Asia in his debut season.
Final Thoughts
With a fresh start in the U.S. racing scene, a partnership with Chevrolet, and the mighty Corvette Z06 GT3.R, JMR is ready to unleash chaos on the track in 2025. Whether it’s the roar of the V8, the legendary racing bloodline, or the pure adrenaline of the sport, one thing’s for sure – JMR is ready to make history.
