STLA AutoDrive 1.0: A New Era Of Hands-Free Driving

Stellantis has taken a bold step into the future with the launch of STLA AutoDrive 1.0, the company’s first in-house-developed automated driving system. Designed to redefine the driving experience, STLA AutoDrive delivers Hands-Free and Eyes-Off functionality (SAE Level 3), putting it at the forefront of automotive intelligence and automation.

A key component of Stellantis’ cutting-edge technology strategy—alongside STLA Brain and STLA Smart Cockpit—this system is engineered to enhance convenience, safety, and efficiency.

Redefining Commuting

Imagine reclaiming valuable time during your daily drive. STLA AutoDrive takes control at speeds of up to 60 km/h (37 mph), making stop-and-go traffic effortless. Whether you’re catching up on emails, watching a movie, reading a book, or simply taking in the view, this technology is designed to ease the stress of urban commuting.

“Helping drivers make the best use of their time is a priority,” says Ned Curic, Stellantis Chief Engineering and Technology Officer. “By handling routine driving tasks, STLA AutoDrive will enhance the driving experience, making time behind the wheel more efficient and enjoyable.”

Seamless, Intuitive Automation

STLA AutoDrive is built for simplicity. When conditions allow, drivers receive a notification that the system is ready to engage. A single press of a button activates the system, which then takes full control—maintaining safe distances, adjusting speed, and seamlessly managing steering and braking.

The system constantly monitors its surroundings through a sophisticated suite of sensors, ensuring high-precision awareness in all conditions, including nighttime driving and light rain. An automated sensor-cleaning system keeps critical components clear, guaranteeing optimal reliability at all times.

A Smooth, Human-Like Driving Experience

Stellantis engineers have fine-tuned STLA AutoDrive to react with the finesse of an experienced driver. Whether maintaining a safe following distance, navigating merging traffic, or responding to road conditions, the system operates with natural, fluid movements—eliminating the jerky, robotic feel of traditional automation.

For higher-speed cruising, STLA AutoDrive also offers Adaptive Cruise Control with lane centring, available in Level 2 (hands-on) and Level 2+ (hands-off, eyes-on) driving modes.

Future-Ready and Always Evolving

Built on a scalable platform, STLA AutoDrive is ready for global deployment across Stellantis’ portfolio, ensuring a seamless integration across various models. Its cloud-connected design enables continuous enhancements via over-the-air updates, keeping the system optimised and future-proof.

Safety remains a top priority. The system complies with all applicable regulations and requires drivers to stay seated, belted, and ready to take control when prompted. It also adheres to regional laws on driver conduct, including phone use restrictions.

What’s Next for STLA AutoDrive?

Stellantis sees STLA AutoDrive as an evolving platform, with ongoing advancements set to unlock even greater capabilities, including:

  • Hands-Free and Eyes-Off operation at higher speeds, up to 95 km/h (59 mph).
  • Enhanced off-road automation for select models.

With its perfect blend of intelligence, adaptability, and convenience, STLA AutoDrive marks the next chapter in Stellantis’ journey toward a smarter, more intuitive driving experience. The future of automation has arrived.
