Denza D9 Launched In Malaysia: Luxury Meets The Road!

The Denza D9 has finally arrived in Malaysia! After making waves in Singapore and Thailand, Denza, BYD’s premium sub-brand, has now officially launched its all-electric luxury MPV. Having previewed the D9 last week, Malaysian EV enthusiasts have been eagerly waiting to see if this ride lives up to the hype. So, let’s dive right in!

Comfort, Performance & Design

The Denza D9 comes in two variants: the Advanced, which is a front-wheel drive, and the Premium, which is an all-wheel drive. The goal is to offer a seamless blend of luxury and performance. When it comes to comfort, the D9 absolutely nails it! With a spacious cabin that comfortably fits seven adults, this MPV provides a first-class experience on the road.

Step inside, and you’re greeted by an interior packed with tech and comfort. The massive 15.6-inch central touchscreen immediately catches your attention because bigger is always better. The massage chairs ensure you stay relaxed from start to finish, and the temperature-controlled 6.8-litre fridge, which ranges from -6 to 50°C, is perfect for road trip refreshments.

A luxury MPV isn’t just about the feel—it’s got to look the part too! The Denza D9 certainly delivers with automatic LED headlights and LED tail lights for a sleek, futuristic glow. The 18-inch alloy wheels ensure you turn heads wherever you go. Convenience is key, with powered front and sliding doors, keyless entry, and remote start—because who even uses keys anymore? A panoramic sunroof adds an extra touch of elegance, while the three-zone climate control keeps every passenger happy.

Performance & Charging

Both the Advanced and Premium versions house the same massive 103 kWh Blade lithium iron phosphate (LFP) battery. The D9 supports DC fast charging up to 166 kW and AC charging at 11 kW. A quick 10-minute charge adds 150 km of range, and if you need a serious boost, the battery goes from 30% to 80% in just 30 minutes.

On paper, the Denza D9 seems like a luxury powerhouse. But does it deliver on the road? Well, not entirely. During a test drive, a few things stood out—and not all for the right reasons. The throttle response felt laggy, as if the car took a second to realise you’d stepped on the accelerator. The steering wasn’t as responsive as you’d expect, and the suspension was a bit disappointing for a premium MPV. For a car that promises both luxury and performance, the ride could definitely be smoother.

Price & After-Sales Perks

It’s not all bad news, though! Denza is rolling out a cross-border after-sales warranty service across Malaysia, Singapore, and Thailand. According to Liu Xueliang, General Manager of Asia-Pacific Sales Division, this initiative ensures a worry-free ownership experience for those travelling between these countries.

Now, let’s talk money. The Denza D9 Advanced is priced at RM259,000, while the Premium model comes in at RM309,000. The pricing seems fair for the luxury and tech it offers, but is it the best performance-focused EV MPV out there? That’s up for debate.

Final Verdict

If you’re after a tech-loaded, ultra-comfortable luxury MPV, the Denza D9 is definitely worth considering. But if sharp driving dynamics are high on your priority list, you might want to test-drive it first and see if it meets your expectations.
