Chery Malaysia Shifts Gears with First SEA Exports!

Chery Corporate Malaysia (Chery) is kicking things up a notch by rolling out its first batch of locally assembled (CKD) vehicles for export to Southeast Asia (SEA). Leading the charge are the Jaecoo J7 and Jaecoo J7 PHEV SUVs, but don’t blink—more models and brands, including those from Chery’s own lineup, will be joining the list soon!

First stop? Vietnam—a left-hand drive market—will be the pioneer recipient of these sleek SUVs. But that’s just the beginning. Chery has its sights set on expanding exports to Thailand, Brunei, the Philippines, and Singapore, with more destinations likely in the pipeline.

All exported vehicles will roll off the production line at Chery’s state-of-the-art facility in Shah Alam, which officially opened its doors in June last year. According to Chery Corporate Malaysia Vice President Leo Chen, things are moving full steam ahead in transforming Malaysia into Chery’s production and R&D powerhouse for SEA.

“Furthermore, Chery is excited to play a role in boosting Malaysia’s economy, develop local talent and strengthen our supply chain. We are confident in achieving our goal to make Malaysia the leading export hub for Chery vehicles which includes our premium sub-brand, Jaecoo.” says Leo.

Meanwhile, the Jaecoo J7 PHEV—fresh off the assembly line—has its grand Malaysian debut slated for the end of this month. Sporting Jaecoo’s signature ‘Super Hybrid System,’ this plug-in hybrid packs a serious punch with a 1.5-litre turbocharged inline-four engine and an integrated motor linked to an 18.3 kWh hybrid battery.

With a combined output of 347 hp (255 kW) and 525 Nm of torque, the J7 PHEV zooms from 0-100 km/h in just 8.5 seconds. And if versatility is your thing, you’re in luck—it can switch between petrol, electric, or a hybrid mix, offering a pure electric range of 90 km.

Charging? No worries there. The J7 PHEV supports up to 40 kW DC fast charging and comes equipped with a 6.6 kW onboard AC charger. Plus, its aerodynamic 19-inch alloy wheels wrapped in Kumho tyres and sleek side mirrors add an extra layer of style and performance. More exciting details will be revealed at its official launch next week, so stay tuned!
