The ride-hailing game in Malaysia is heating up, and inDrive is making big moves to stay ahead. The global mobility platform has been expanding rapidly, and it winning the hearts of the passengers and drivers by offering a fairer, more flexible approach to urban transport.

Over the past year, inDrive’s growth in Malaysia has been nothing short of impressive. By August 2024, the platform had seen a 53.7% jump in rides, a 56.1% increase in active users, and a 36.1% rise in drivers. That’s a huge leap compared to the more modest gains recorded in 2022 and 2023. Clearly, Malaysians are embracing inDrive’s user-driven model, which allows passengers and drivers to set their own fares—something that’s rare in the ride-hailing world.
The Bigger Picture
inDrive isn’t just growing locally—it’s making waves globally. The platform has crossed 5 billion completed rides and is now operating in 888 cities across 48 countries. Meanwhile, the ride-hailing market in Southeast Asia is on an upward trajectory, expected to hit USD 9.41 billion (about RM41.6 billion) by 2025, with steady growth projected through 2029. In Malaysia alone, the industry is set to generate USD 0.51 billion (RM2.2 billion) in revenue by 2025.
With demand for ride-hailing on the rise, inDrive is stepping up its game. The company is planning to expand its footprint in key cities like Klang Valley, Penang, and Johor Bahru, making it easier for passengers to find rides and for drivers to access support. Mini driver support centres will also be set up to provide training, assistance, and a more personal touch to driver relations.
More Drivers, Better Support
By the end of 2025, inDrive aims to have over 40,000 registered drivers in Malaysia. But it’s not just about numbers—the company is working to improve driver benefits, advocating for better insurance coverage, and strengthening ties with driver associations. As the conversation around gig worker welfare continues across Southeast Asia, inDrive wants to ensure its drivers get the support they deserve.

Going Green for the Future
Beyond making ride-hailing more accessible, inDrive has its sights set on sustainability. The platform is exploring partnerships with EV manufacturers to help reduce carbon emissions and align with Malaysia’s push for greener mobility solutions.
Looking ahead, inDrive is committed to expanding its presence in Southeast Asia, staying ahead of evolving mobility trends, and contributing to the shift towards sustainable urban transport. Whether you’re a driver looking for fairer pay or a passenger wanting more control over your rides, inDrive is shaping up to be a game-changer in Malaysia’s ride-hailing industry.
