The practice of having women-only coaches first began with KTM in 2010 after it was revealed that 60% of their passengers were women. This initiative significantly enhanced safety for women using public transport.
Following its success, the initiative expanded to other public transport services, including the LRT and MRT. The MRT Kajang Line introduced the service in 2023, followed by the MRT Putrajaya Line in 2024.
Recently, KTM temporarily suspended the service due to the Thaipusam festival, which ended two days ago.
However, starting today (February 13), KTM has officially reinstated the service for commuters in the Klang Valley, as announced on their official Facebook page.
“The Women-Only Coach for KTM Komuter services in the Klang Valley will be enforced starting 13 February 2025 (Thursday). Male passengers are STRICTLY PROHIBITED from entering the Women-Only Coach,” KTM stated in their post yesterday.
The designated Women-Only Coaches will be Coaches C and D on six-coach trains, while on three-coach trains, it will be Coach B.
Similar to the pink stickers placed on MRT platforms and coaches, KTM Berhad will implement the same identification system to ensure clear signage and enforcement.
