Porsche Taycan GTS Shatters Ice Drift World Record!

Driving on ice is already a nerve-wracking challenge for most, but Porsche? They took it up a notch and smashed a new Guinness World Record for the longest continuous drift on ice in an electric vehicle. Talk about sheer guts!

Now, breaking world records is nothing new for Porsche. Remember when they set the fastest lap at the Nürburgring Nordschleife back in September 2017?

The legendary Porsche 911 GT2 RS ripped around the Green Hell in just 6:47.3 minutes, leaving rivals in the dust. But this latest record? It’s another jewel in the Taycan crown.

Well to add cherry on the cake of records, this marks the fourth Guinness World Record for the Taycan series, and they weren’t messing around. Porsche deployed the Taycan GTS, a beast of an EV boasting a dual-motor all-wheel-drive (AWD) setup, kicking out a staggering 690 HP and rocketing from 0-100 km/h in just 2.7 seconds.

Behind the wheel was none other than Porsche Experience instructor Jens Richter, who took on the icy challenge at the Porsche Arctic Centre in Levi, Finland.

Drifting for an unbelievable 132 laps, Richter carved his way through the frozen circuit, achieving a jaw-dropping total drift distance of 17.503 km—a solid 3 km longer than the previous record of 14.809 km. All this, in just 46 minutes of non-stop sideways action.

But don’t be fooled into thinking this was a walk in the park. The first attempt only lasted 11 km before the ice track deteriorated too quickly, forcing the team back to the drawing board.

With conditions playing a major role, they waited until nightfall when the temperatures dropped, firming up the track for a second attempt.

Of course, the Taycan GTS wasn’t alone in this mission. It was kitted out with special Michelin winter tyres featuring 1 mm spikes for maximum grip and control. Porsche also strapped in a professional GPS measuring system to record every twist, turn, and flick of the steering wheel.

This high-tech gear not only tracked the precise drift distance but also monitored G-forces, acceleration, and braking inputs to ensure every move was official.

Richter, still buzzing from the record-smashing run, said, “With our new Guinness World Record title on ice, the Taycan has once again proven its sideways driving capabilities. And this time, with all-wheel drive! The fact that the Taycan GTS can be controlled so well, even under extreme conditions, speaks volumes for its brilliant chassis and perfectly balanced performance.”

Four records down—what’s next for the Taycan? Whatever it is, you can bet Porsche will keep pushing the limits of what’s possible on four wheels!
