The Ministry of Public Works (KKR) will enforce a temporary speed limit reduction on all Federal Roads during the Chinese New Year festival from 28 January to 2 February 2025.
In a media statement, the Minister of Works, Alexander Nanta Linggi, announced that the speed limit would be reduced from 90km/h to 80km/h for the six-day period. This initiative aims to reduce the likelihood of accidents during the festive season.
He also stated that non-critical road construction and maintenance works would be temporarily halted during this period.
“Emergency works that need to be expedited for the safety of road users will be planned accordingly,” he said. “If necessary, alternative routes will be provided to ensure smooth travel for users heading to their destinations.”
Additionally, the minister has instructed PLUS Expressways to suspend lane widening work on Sedenak-Kulai highway from 23 January to 3 February 2025.
The minister also reminded the public that the government would carry out Ops Bersepadu from 28 January to 2 February 2025.
This operation is designed to facilitate smoother travel during the holiday season. Ops Bersepadu is a collaborative effort involving the Royal Malaysian Police (PDRM), the Road Transport Department (JPJ), the Malaysian Institute of Road Safety Research (MIROS), and the Malaysian Highway Authority (LLM).
