Tesla has dropped the curtains on the facelifted 2025 Model Y, a highly anticipated update codenamed Project Juniper.
And guess what? Malaysia is already on the map for this futuristic beauty, with orders now open for two variants: the Rear-Wheel Drive (RWD) and the Long Range All-Wheel Drive (AWD).
Pricing starts at an enticing RM195,450 for the RWD variant, while the AWD will set you back RM242,450. Both variants come as part of an exclusive “Launch Series” offering.
Let’s dive in and see what makes this electric beast worth the hype!
A Revamped Design: From Toad to Trendsetter
Tesla’s design team clearly heard the critics loud and clear—gone are the “toad-like” vibes of yesteryear.
The 2025 Model Y now sports a fresh “Cyber Design” inspired by its avant-garde siblings, the Cybertruck and Cybercab.
Sleek full-width lightbars illuminate the front and rear, complemented by redesigned taillights that scream futuristic elegance.
If that wasn’t enough, 19-inch alloy wheels (standard) and a sportier rear diffuser give the Model Y a distinctive edge.
Fancy more flair? You can opt for 20-inch Helix 2.0 wheels for an extra RM10,000.
Interior: Tech Meets Tranquillity
Step inside, and you’re greeted by a cabin that’s as minimalist as it is luxurious.
The 2025 Model Y ups the ante with double-layer silver-coated glass for windows and the panoramic roof, reducing UV exposure while keeping the heat (and noise) at bay. It’s all about creating a quieter, more comfortable cocoon.
The centrepiece? A sprawling 15.4-inch touchscreen display, complemented by an 8-inch display for second-row passengers.
Physical buttons? Forget about it! Aside from two dials on the steering wheel, it’s all touch all the time.
For interiors, the All Black theme comes standard, but for RM5,000, you can upgrade to a chic Black and White combo.
Powertrain: Electrified Thrills
Tesla’s keeping the nitty-gritty powertrain specs under wraps for now, but we do have enough to whet your appetite.
The Rear-Wheel Drive variant boasts a 0-100 km/h sprint in 5.9 seconds, with a top speed of 201 km/h and a WLTP-rated range of 466 km.
Meanwhile, the Long Range AWD variant zips to 100 km/h in just 4.3 seconds, matching the top speed but extending its WLTP range to an impressive 551 km.
Both variants promise lightning-fast recharges, with Superchargers adding 266 km of range in just 15 minutes.
For context, the pre-facelift base Model Y offered a 57.5 kWh battery, 347 hp, and 420 Nm of torque, hitting 0-100 km/h in 6.9 seconds. Clearly, the new Model Y is an evolution, not just a refresh.
