It seems motorsports scored a big win in this year’s Laureus World Sport Awards in Kuala Lumpur as quadruple world champion in Formula One, Sebastian Vettel and MotoGP prodigy, Marc Marquez, were honoured with big awards.

Vettel took home the prestigious World Sportsman award, defeating Usain Bolt, Mo Farah (athletics), LeBron James (basketball), Rafael Nadal (tennis), Cristiano Ronaldo (football) for the top prize. Meanwhile, Marquez, who won the MotoGP title during his debutant year in 2013, won the World Breakthrough of the Year award for becoming the youngest ever MotoGP world champion at the age of 20 years 266 days.

However, the Red Bull Racing team, who was nominated for the Laureus World Team of the Year, came home empty handed as German football giants, Bayern Munich won that award instead.

This is Vettel’s fourth nomination for the World Sportsman, and his fifth in the Laureus as back in 2009, he was nominated in the ‘Breakthrough’ category.

“First of all, YES,” he said after being confirmed as the winner. “It is a big honour. This is one of the most special Awards I have received.”

Vettel’s acceptance speech is as per video below:
