The Goodwood Festival is one where many car makers show off or strut their stuff. This time around, what caught everyone’s attention was something unique, the first autonomous car to drive itself up the world renowned hill climb course. Yes, no drivers indeed and it wasn’t piloted remotely. It relies completely on AI to navigate the car up the hill.
This car is built for what is touted to be a race for autonomous cars, Roborace. I know what you are thinking, who would want to watch a race full of cars driven by computers right? It is like watching the AI tackle Need for Speed on the computer and that itself is pretty boring. But what this signifies is the next step in autonomous driving and so far I like how the technology is maturing.
