Last year in September, Transport for London ruled that Uber’s services approach and conduct were not fit and proper to hold a private vehicle hire license. This meant that Uber lost its license to operate in London when the city’s transport regulator Transport for London (TfL) refused to renew their license. Uber appealed the decision and the service are still up and running through the appeal process.
Thanks to that decision, CEO, Dara Khosrowsahi promised that there will be changes within the firm and that they want to do so not because of business but to improve the betterment and lives of millions of people in London.
In the past two days, a court hearing in London went through Uber’s appeal process. Uber representatives were not the once roaring lions but rather showing a meek and humbled approach, acknowledging that Uber had made grave mistakes and are on a path of improvement.
Uber will now follow regulations to a tee and will also directly report crimes straight to the police rather than just wait for their customers to raise the flag. Uber will also regulate the driver’s hours to ensure that they meet the required 6-hour break after a 10-hour job.
At the end of the session, the court deemed that Uber had the right to operate in London for the next 15 months. This turnaround is what Uber needs the most and shows that with a new CEO at the helm, positive changes can be made and that the tech firm is shedding away its past and acting more maturely.
