Last week a Tesla Model S crashed into the rear of a fire mechanic truck which had stopped at the red light. This brings about more scrutiny to the company whose “autopilot” technology has claimed lives in recent times. Tesla again has repeatedly informed their customer that the technology is a pure driver assistance and that drivers are still required to be vigilant behind the wheel.
In the crash, the Model S was travelling close to 97kmh (around 60mph) when it crashed and thankfully, the driver only suffered a broken ankle. The driver admitted to the police that she wasn’t paying attention to the road at the time of the crash and was busy with her mobile phone.
Musk was furious that this made headlines on the Washington Post saying that publications don’t report on the other 40,000 deaths which is caused by accidents but rather focused on Tesla alone.
It’s super messed up that a Tesla crash resulting in a broken ankle is front page news and the ~40,000 people who died in US auto accidents alone in past year get almost no coverage https://t.co/6gD8MzD6VU

What’s actually amazing about this accident is that a Model S hit a fire truck at 60mph and the driver only broke an ankle. An impact at that speed usually results in severe injury or death.
