Tesla will be pausing their production line for the Model 3 again in what is meant to be called a production pause. This pause is meant for the factory to fix up certain things, whether it may be from processes to the actual equipment handling the assembly of the cars.
“These periods are used to improve automation and systematically address bottlenecks in order to increase production rates,” a Tesla spokesperson said.
As of now, Tesla is facing a production issue with the Model 3 where it predicted last year that it would produce 5,000 units a week. It now does a little over 2,000 units a week. Elon Musk has taken control of the manufacturing process and is looking into ways to improve production numbers.
Last week, Musk said that over-reliance on automation is actually slowing the manufacturing process down. He feels that humans are now “underrated”. Their new target is to get to 5,000 units a week by July 2018. Once they hit that target, they will begin producing AWD models.
