With ailing production figures, Elon Musk has taken charge of the Model 3 production. Many have blamed Tesla for poor quality builds on the Model 3 and as they try to fix it, Tesla is missing a lot of production targets for the Model 3. Musk would be taking over Doug Field (a former Apple exec) at the production lines.
About a year ago, I asked Doug to manage both engineering & production. He agreed that Tesla needed eng & prod better aligned, so we don’t design cars that are crazy hard to build. Right now, tho, better to divide & conquer, so I’m back to sleeping at factory. Car biz is hell …

Doug would remain at vehicle engineering in which his skillsets are better suited whilst Musk continues to sleep on the factory floor ensuring that all of the issues and production goes smoothly in order to meet targets.
Can’t believe you’re even writing about this. My job as CEO is to focus on what’s most critical, which is currently Model 3 production. Doug, who I regard as one of the world’s most talented engineering execs, is focused on vehicle engineering.

With the CEO taking charge, customers can hope that the Model 3 that they have reserved would be arriving soon.
