As we have reported yesterday, the team at the Tempe Police Station has decided to release videos from the Uber self-driving car to the public. This is surprising that the investigation is still currently ongoing where a self-driving Uber vehicle crashed into a pedestrian crossing the road causing a fatality. The video itself was released on Tempe Police’s Twitter feed.
The video released provides two views, an external view and an internal view of the driver. Warning, although the video stops just before the crash, it may be graphic and disturbing to some folks so please watch with caution.

The Uber safety driver, 44-year-old Rafaela Vasquez, told the police that it all happened in a flash and with the video being released, we can see that Rafaela Vasquez was looking downward at the time of the crash. Sylvia Moir, the police chief of Tempe Police said that it was unlikely that Uber would be at fault but the video does throw a lot of questions up.
In a statement to The Verge, an Uber spokesperson said that “The video is disturbing and heartbreaking to watch, and our thoughts continue to be with Elaine’s loved ones. Our cars remain grounded, and we’re assisting local, state and federal authorities in any way we can.”
