The new BMW X2

BMW has finally released covers off its new BMW X2 making a push into the world of fast selling premium SAC (Sport Activity Coupe). The X2 fits between the X1 and X3 and joins the range of the X4, X5, X6 and possibly the X7 in the future. A lot of X in a place where there aren’t any X-men.

The X2 will be available in the market next year in March 2018 and BMW hopes to attract the urban young who have enough cash to go gallavanting off into the sunset or dirt road paths. So remember, it isn’t an SUV, it is a Sport Activity Coupe where BMW sacrifices some headspace to make it look like a coupe.

As per the usual BMW model cues, you get to choose from M Sport models as well as X models. They have also included in a very garish shout-in-your-face colour which is the Galvanic Gold metallic colour pictured in the attached photos. Inside you get perforated Dakota leather in Magma Red and the Micro Hexagon fabric Anthracite/Alcantara combination in Black with M piping and yellow contrast stitching. Red and yellow, reminds me of the Chinese New Year. Pity it wouldn’t be launched during next year’s Chinese New Year celebrations.

At launch, you get the standard 2.0 petrol engine in the guise of the BMW X2 xDrive20i which has 192hp. You also can choose the diesel model, X2 xDrive20d diesel variant which has 190hp or you can opt for the slightly more powerful diesel model in the guise of the 25d which produces 231hp. The diesel models are mated with the usual eight-speed Steptronic transmission but the petrol model gets the fancier and sportier seven-speed Steptronic transmission.

There will be more models available in the future as well. On the inside, you get the host of BMW tech which is the BMW ConnectedDrive paired with the BMW Connected App, option to have Apple CarPlay as well as connected driving experience which offers drivers assistance. Not too sure if it will hit our markets but you can also opt for a full-colour BMW Head-Up display.
